Large scale land development programs are costly and time consuming exercises. Our client wanted to do an initial assessment to identify “problem areas” such as areas of soft soils and historic water channels, which could hinder future development.

Miyamoto scoped and managed a large-scale geophysical investigation of the site. This involved the use of the Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) methods to assess the characteristics of the underlying ground. Through analysis of the data and in correlation with available geotechnical data, we were able to assess the geotechnical risks at the site including liquefaction, soft soils and the presence of subsurface features such as historic water features. As a result, future geotechnical investigation and testing can be targeted to specific areas, decreasing the amount of testing required and providing significant cost savings to the client.
